Brief history of the Chair
The organizer and the first head of the Chair of “Mining art” of the Don Polytechnic Institute was Professor V.A. Auerbakh. V.A. Auerbach was one of the founders of the Mining art analytical course. From 1913 to 1923 the Chair was headed by Professor N.S.Uspensky (the founder of the theory of percussion drilling). During the period from 1907 to 1926, the Chair of “Mining Art” produced 20 mining engineers, and from 1926 to 1940 this amount grew up to 210.
In 1944, the Chair of “Ore and placer mining” was created. This Chair trained specialists in two profiles: underground mining of ore deposits and open pit mining. The Head of the Chair until 1974 was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, P.A. Makhin.
In 1988 the Chair of “Open cast mining of mineral deposits” (the first Head of the Chair was Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. V.D. Gorlov; since 1999 the Head of the Chair is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. V.N. Ignatov), and the Chair of “Underground mining of mineral deposits” (the Head of the Chair is a major specialist in technology and environmental protection, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and MANEB, honorary member of the State National Academy of Sciences, V.A. Shestakov) were created.
Since 2010, the Chair of "Mining" appeared, in the activity of which all the traditions of the Chairs of “Open cast mining of mineral deposits” and "Underground mining of mineral deposits" were embodied.
In 2015, the Chair of “Mine Surveying and Geodesy” and the Chair of “Life Safety and Environmental Protection” joined the Chair of “Mining”.
In 2018, the Chair has specialists training program “Oil and gas equipment and technologies” with specialization “Machines and equipment of oil and gas fields” and bachelor’s degree program “Technological machines and equipment” with specialization “Machines and equipment of oil and gas fields”.
The present day Chair
Currently, the educational process on the Chair is provided by 8 professors, doctors of sciences, 13 associate professors, candidates of sciences, 9 associate professors of the Chair, 10 senior lectures and teaching assistants. The Chair graduates are in-demand specialists in the modern labor market, capable of carrying out independent activities of production and technological, research, design, as well as organizational and managerial nature.
